About Kelly

Born in Chicago and raised in the south suburbs, award-winning fine art photographer Kelly Griffin has now called Rockford, IL home for 15 years. Blending self-taught skills with an art education from Eastern Illinois University, Griffin finds solace in photography because it allows her to slow down, notice the details around her, and form a genuine connection with her subject. The result is emotionally evocative imagery that puts you right alongside her on the journey.

Artistic Philosophy

A sense of belonging is one of humanity’s most basic needs. It is the feeling of security, acceptance, and connectedness. Research shows that time spent in nature is directly tied to improved well-being and a stronger connection to the earth and to each other. As the viewer of her work, Griffin hopes you feel that same sense of belonging as well. 

Inspiration & Style

Griffin finds inspiration from the beauty and wonder of nature. She has an inherent talent for capturing tranquil moments in time and transporting you there—stirring emotions and awakening the senses. Her work has been described as peaceful, dreamy, and zen-like.

Recognition

Griffin’s photography has been published by Travel + Leisure, Dotdash Meredith, and numerous local publications. She has held two solo art exhibitions at Nicholas Conservatory in Rockford, IL, and regularly shows her work at fine art fairs throughout the Midwest, where she has earned several awards.

Beyond the Lens

When she’s not at an art fair or shooting nature-based portraits, you’ll likely find Kelly out on the trail, hiking with her husband, Tom, and dog, Whiskey.
